A Magical Family Getaway in Malaysia

As we stepped off the bus and into the cool embrace of the Cameron Highlands, a wave of mist swirled gently around us , as if welcoming us into a dreamy escape. Our Malaysian adventure had begun, and this hill country was our first stop. Nestled in the hills, the highlands greeted us with crisp air, emerald tea plantations, and a sense of calm we hadn’t felt in a while.

🍃 A Serene Start at La Della Ferns

We checked into La Della Ferns, a cozy, English-style hotel with warm hospitality and views that opened to rolling green hills and landscaped gardens. The room was spacious and inviting — a perfect base for our two-day stay.

Our children immediately fell in love with the open gardens, and we enjoyed our evening strolls with cardigans on, sipping hot Milo and simply breathing in the refreshing highland air. The weather, a cool 16°C, was a welcome break from the tropical heat back home.

🍓 Strawberry Picking & Tea Plantation Magic

Our first adventure took us to the Big Red Strawberry Farm, where we got our hands red with juicy strawberries. The kids loved plucking their own fruit, and we couldn’t resist the famous strawberry ice cream.

Later, we explored the scenic BOH Tea Plantation. The sea of green rolling hills, dotted with tea pickers and kissed by the morning mist, was straight out of a postcard. We sipped freshly brewed tea while enjoying panoramic views from the café — one of the most peaceful moments of our trip.

🌸 Cactus Valley & Butterfly Encounters

We visited Cactus Valley, where hundreds of unique cacti and blooms created a wonderland of colour and shape. Right next door, the Butterfly Garden delighted the kids with fluttering wings and exotic insects. Watching a butterfly land gently on my daughter’s shoulder was such a precious moment.

☕ Cosy Cafés & Local Treats

Cameron Highlands is a haven for food lovers. We enjoyed scones and cream at The Lord’s Café, warm steamboat dinners, and lots of sweet corn and locally made chocolate. Everything tasted better in the highlands!

💭 Misty Memories

Our time in Cameron Highlands was short, but the memories will linger like the mist on those tea-covered slopes. We slowed down, laughed more, and connected deeply as a family. A Family Adventure in Cameron Highlands

Nestled in the misty highlands of Malaysia, Cameron Highlands offered our family the perfect retreat from the city bustle. As our journey began on the 17th of December, the cool air and lush greenery welcomed us with open arms. The winding road that led us uphill hinted at the peaceful escape that lay ahead.

Our Stay at La De La Ferns Hotel

From the moment we checked into La De La Ferns Hotel, we felt at home. The colonial-style charm, warm hospitality, and spacious rooms made it ideal for a family getaway. Each morning, we were greeted by stunning views of tea plantations right from our window, setting a calm tone for our adventures.

Exploring Cameron Highlands

We booked a one-day package tour arranged by the hotel that gave us a taste of the Highlands’ best attractions:

• BOH Tea Plantation – This was a highlight. We strolled through emerald green terraces, learned about the tea-making process, and sipped freshly brewed tea while admiring the panoramic views.
• Strawberry Farm – The kids were thrilled to pick their own strawberries. The sweetness of the fruit matched the joy on their faces.
• Cactus Valley – A quirky, colorful stop with an impressive variety of plants.
• Lavender Garden – With its vibrant purple blooms and butterfly garden, this was a dreamy photo spot.
• Butterfly Park – The delicate beauty of butterflies floating around enchanted all of us.
• Bee Farm – We got a sweet peek into honey production and even sampled some!
• Rose Garden – A tranquil, blooming escape perfect for a few quiet moments.

Although the Time Tunnel Museum was closed during our visit, the other attractions more than made up for it.

Food and Family Time

Back at the hotel, we unwound with delicious meals served at the in-house restaurant. The food was warm, homely, and comforting after a day of exploring. We also spent time just enjoying each other’s company — sharing stories, sipping hot cocoa, and playing card games with the kids.

Cameron Highlands was more than just a destination; it was a memory woven with laughter, discovery, and love. It set the tone for the rest of our Malaysian adventure and reminded us of the joy found in slowing down and reconnecting with each other.
